Drawings – Measures II

For this phase, I decided to focus my work on the module that studio Henkel built last year, and more precisely on the door that is placed in front of the entrance trench of the ICRC Museum. Prior to going on site, it had caught my attention as I wanted to continue working on paths and passages, as well as their link to human habits, in order to have a continuity with my work from Tectonics. However, when I arrived on site the next day, I realised that this « door » was rather unsuccessful in indicating the entrance to the museum, as many of its visitors would get lost once they reached it.

This may be because another doorway (created by studio Pretolani), covered in very clear signage indicating the museum, already exists, making this module redundant; or because the module creates a new direction that is not aligned with that of the museum’s entrance (or any other pathway in the area). This can be seen through the perspectives I used to convey this idea during the review.

Lastly, with the symbolic significance of the entrance trench of the museum, it seems as though covering it up with the module almost goes against the very strong message the museum wishes to convey his visitors.
